The interview subject was born in the 1960s and lived in a rural area of Jiangsu from 1966 to 1976. Her family background was classified as farmer and her occupation during the Cultural Revolution was student,farmer, and "barefoot doctor." The highest level of education she has achieved is middle school. The interview was conducted in person in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
