About Pitt Faculty
During its long history, the university has employed many distinguished faculty members that have educated and impacted not only Pitt students, but also the local and global community. Jonas Salk invented the polio vaccine on the Oakland campus. Researchers from Dr. Thomas Starzl - known as the father of modern transplantation - to astronomers Samuel Pierpont Langley and John Brashear have all conducted research at the university.
