Description
Thomas Michael Donahue joined the University of Pittsburgh's Physics Department in 1951 and developed a program that studied upper atmospheric science. He collaborated with NASA on missions to Mars, Venus, and other planets. Donahue served as director of Pitt's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Sciences (1966-1974) and the Space Research Coordination Center (1960-1974). He left Pitt in 1974 to become the chairman of the Department pf Atmospheric and Oceanic Science at the University of Michigan.
