Description
Gothic; The Mary Magdalene WindowDelaporte no. 5, Deremble-Manhes no. 46At left (panel 15), Mary Magdalen arrives in Provence in Southern France. She is haloed and identified by the inscription MARIA MAGDALENA. She carries a book. Behind her is a body of water with a boat with a sail on its single mast. In it sits a bearded man with a hood who holds an oar. This is not in accordance with the legend of Mary Magdalen, which tells that she arrives in France on a raft with no sail.In the center (Panel 16), Maximin, who accompanied Mary Magdalen to France, speaks (preaches?) to a group of men. Maximin, who does not have a halo, stands at center, wearing the vestments of a bishop, including a mitre with lappets. He holds a crosier. Five men sit and stand around him, they appear to be listening. 17 Men leave a City (to hear Maximin preach (?))At right, two men stand in front of an elaborate structure (a building? A city?) One of the men is bearded and carries a staff or walking stick, the other is beardless. The structure behind them is elaborate- it has towers with gables and a crenellated wall.; The St. Mary Magdalen Window
