Description
Gothic; The St. Anthony and St. Paul the Hermit WindowDelaporte no. 13, Deremble-Manhes no. 30bPanel 14: Anthony is rescuedDelaporte identifies this as part of the episode where demons attack Anthony (panels 11-14).The scene takes place in an interior. In the background is an arcade with carved capitals. Above are a roof and a gable. Delaporte notes that two scenes are depicted in this panel. To the left, a man carries the semi-naked Anthony (halo, bearded) on his back. This beardless man may be one of those depicted in panel 12. To the right, Anthony is depicted again (halo, beard). He lies on a low bed or stretcher dressed in a blue tunic and a red mantle. Above his are a man and a woman. The beardless man (left) holds one hand to his cheek and raises the other (in despair?). The figure at right is a woman with her head covered with a veil. She wrings her hands.; The Anthony Abbot and Paul the Hermit Window
