Description
Gothic; Life of the Virgin WindowDelaporte no. 16, Deremble-Manhes no. 28bPanel 17: The Annunciation to the Shepherds (Luke 2:8-20)At the top of the panel, an angel emerges from the clouds to announce the birth of Christ to two shepherds. One shepherd stands at left- he is bareheaded and beardless, and carries a shepherds crook. Around his torso is a cloth, and from his belt hands what appears to be a small flask or basket. The other shepherd sits at right on a landscape on a stylized hill or mountain. He wears a hood and has an object hanging from his belt which is like the one carried by the other shepherd. Below his is a flock of at least 5 sheep. A ram rears up on its hind legs. A dog sits at the extreme right.; The Life of the Virgin Window
