Description
Gothic; Margaret and Catherine WindowDeremble-Manhes no. 16, Delaporte window no. 26Panel 11: Maximinus condemns the pagan scholarsConvinced by Catherine’s arguments, several of the scholars were converted to Christianity. Maximinus had them burned.Maximinus (crowned) stands at center. A small demon floats in the air at left, turned as if speaking to Maximinus. The demon has a red body, green hands and feet, yellow wings and a green animal-like head with horns. Maximinus looks and gestures toward a man standing at left, holding a staff. He wears a short parti-coloured tunic, half red, half green (cf. panels 6, 14, 19 and 22). Such tunics were regarded as somewhat suspect in the Middle Ages- for example, they were worn by troubadours.; The Margaret and Catherine Window
