Description
Gothic; The Pantaleon WindowDelaporte no. 40, Deremble-Manhes no. 11Panel 2: Pantaléon studies medicine.Pantaléon was the son of the son of a rich pagan, Eustorgius of Nicomedia. He was sent to learn medicine to the court of the imperial physician. This panel shows Pantaléon studying medicine. His teacher sits at left, wearing a round cap and holding up a vial of urine, a common diagnostic tool of doctors during the Middle ages. Pantaléon sits at right. He has a halo and holds an open book. In the background are curtains, indicating that the scene was taking place indoors. Manhes-Deremble points out that there are many scenes of education at Chartres, which was itself a major center for education.; The St. Pantaleon Window
