Description
Gothic; The Sylvester WindowDelaporte no. 30, Deremble-Manhes no. 8.Panel 14: Constantine orders sacrifices to an Idol. The half-sized, naked male idol stands on an altar at left. It is gold-colored and holds up what appear to be plates of round gold objects that Delaporte suggests are gold coins. Constantine, (bearded, crowned, holding a scepter) stands near the center of the panel, gesturing toward the idol. To his right stands a figure (a woman?) With its head covered and its arm raised toward the idol. To the extreme right stand two figures facing to the right. They may be Christians refusing to sacrifice to the idol. This interpretations is strengthened by the fact that in the panel immediately to the right (Panel 15), Sylvester and his followers flee persecution.; The St. Sylvester Window
