Description
Façade; Gothic; Exterior of the West Façade from the WestThe Cathedral can be viewed not only in itself, but also as part of the urban fabric of the town of Chartres. Because of its size and its location on the top of the highest hill in the town, it dominates the cityscape. The structure in the foreground at right is the Chapel of St. Foi. According to Clerval, it was one of the principal parish churches of Chartres. He says the present building was restored many times, especially in the 16th century.; West Façade
