Description
Harvey C. discusses growing up in Union Springs, Alabama, his education, military service in World War I, and eventual move to Chicago and Homestead. He worked in the Inland Steel plant during a strike and described the circumstances of his employment, including his work in the industrial engineer's office. The strike kept him inside the mill until it ended, during which time he had to stay due to safety concerns. Harvey C. detailed his family, their farm, and his move northward for better opportunities due to the challenging conditions and segregation in the South. His father secured their jobs in the mill, aiding their relocation to Homestead.
