Description
Jonas Salk and Julius S. Youngner, the senior scientist on Pitt's core research team. In 1949 he joined Salk's efforts to produce a polio vaccine. Younger was a key figure in the development of the vaccine. He used techniques to produce the virus on a large scale, created methodology for safe testing of the vaccine, and developed a color test which measured the amount of the virus in living tissue and allowed researchers to track the effects of the vaccine on the virus.
