Description
Gothic; Thomas and Jude WindowDeremble-Manhes no. 119B, Delaporte no. 142North Transept ClerestoryThe lowest panels show a tonsured cleric kneeling and raising his hands in prayer toward an altar on which is a large chalice. He is probably the donor of the window. Both the donor and the altar are framed by round arches supported on carved capitals. Above are two large standing figures of the apostles Jude (left) and Philip (right). Both are bearded, haloed and barefooted The figure at left is identified with the inscription S: IVDAVS; he holds a book. The figure at right is identified with the inscription S:TOMAS The two figures stand below trilobed arches above which is stylized architecture.Delaporte says that this window probably used the same cartoon as the adjacent St. Thomas and St. Barnabus Window (Deremble-Manhes no. 119A, Delaporte no. 143). They are also almost identical to the nearby St. Andrew and St. Philip Window (Deremble-Manhes no. 117A, Delaporte no. 140) and St. Jude and St. Philip Window: (Deremble-Manhes no. 117B, Delaporte no. 139).; North Transept Clerestory: The Sts.
