Gothic; Nicholas Window—PedagogicalDelaporte no. 27, Deremble-Manhes no. 14Panel 8: Nicholas anonymously provides a dowry for indigent girls.Nicholas throws pieces of gold through the window of his indigent neighbor to provide dowries so that the neighbor’s daughters will not be forced into prostitution. This is a popular miracle – it the subject of a liturgical drama (Tres Filiae) and is shown on the tympanum of the easternmost portal on the south porch at Chartres. At the extreme right is a stylized tree. Nicholas (beardless, haloed, inscription NICOLAVS) stands at right. In his hand is a large round piece of gold which he is thrusting through a window in a wall that is depicted perpendicular to the plane of the panel. Two other pieces of gold are on the bed at left. Three bareheaded girls lie asleep on this bed, along with their father. The father, who has a nude torso, sits up in bed and reaches both hands toward Nicholas; The St. Nicholas Window—Pedagogical
