Description
Gothic; The Charlemagne WindowDelaporte no. 38, Deremble-Manhes no. 7.Panel 1. Donors: FurriersA furrier shows a fur pelt, shown as vair, to a customer wearing a brown hooded robe, having entered through a door (left). The customer carries a thin rod (measuring rod ? walking stick ?) and gestures toward the furrier, who stands next to a table with piles of furs and another fur hanging above it.Delaporte suggests that the furriers chose to sponsor a Charlemagne window because Charlemagne was thought to have been a great hunter. The furriers also donated the St. Eustace window- Eustace saw his vision of Christ while hunting. The furriers are also patrons of the St. James the Greater window adjacent to the Charlemagne window.; The Charlemagne Window
