Gothic; Paul WindowDelaporte no. 32, Deremble-Manhes no. 4Panel 21: The fall of Patroclus This is the first of several scenes showing the miracle of Patroclus, described in the Letter attributed to St. Linus (see panels 21-4). Patroclus, the cup-bearer of the Emperor Nero, went to hear Paul and Luke preach in an upper room. Since there were so many people in attendance, he sat on a windowsill. However, a demon made him drowsy and he fell out the window to his death.The composition of this register is unusual for Chartres. The central panel (panel 20) is split- the left half shows part of the episode shown in panel 19, the right half shows part of the episode in panel 21. The scene takes place indoors- there is a beam overhead. At left stand two men. One of them looks toward Panel 20 at right, where Paul is preaching. The other looks toward the right, where Patroclus is falling. To the far right, Patroclus falls headfirst out of a window.; The Paul Window
