Description
Gothic; Andrew WindowDelaporte no. 33, Deremble-Manhes no. 2Panel 20: A woman raises a child from the deadDelaporte says that this is an episode from the Life of St. Andrew by Pseudo-Abdias in which Andrew orders one of his followers raise from the dead a small child who had been killed by the serpent shown in panel 19.At left, a woman bends over to hold the hand of a child that is lying on the ground before her. The woman, a wife of the proconsul, wears fashionable 13th century garments, including a barbette (chin strap) and a tourette (flat tart-shaped hat). The child raises its head. To the right stand a man and a woman, probably the child's parents. Above the scene are stylized clouds. The Hand of God reaches down from them; a ray of light goes from the Hand to the head of the child. At the extreme left is a stylized tree, which shows that the scene took place out of doors.; The St. Andrew Window
