Description
Jambs; Gothic; Top figure on the pilaster that separates the central portal from the right portal. A headless man with a cloven hoofed animal at his feet. There has been a great deal of speculation about this figure, mostly because of the inscription ROGERVS behind it. Heimann believes that the figure represents an Old Testament priest sacrificing a heifer, a prefiguration of the Last Supper which appears in the capital frieze above. She believes the inscription is the name of a mason or sculptor. (Heimann, pp. 97-9); West Facade, Central Portal
