Pontifical; Gothic; Feast of St Stephen (26 December) : Stephen stoned Historiated initial D: Martyrdom of St. Stephen (Acts 7:58-9)Stephen kneels at center, raising his hands in prayer. He is tonsured, haloed, and wears the vestments of a deacon (stole and dalmatic). Three men raise rocks to strike him. One holds stones in the fold of his garment. Stephen's martyrdom is also shown on the lintel of the left portal of the South Porch and in the St. Stephen Window (Delaporte no. 41, Deremble-Manhes no. 13).; Pontifical of Chartres, Orléans BM 144
