Description
Frankie Pace continues her discussion of the impact of the Pittsburgh Renaissance and the impact of the Lower Hill project's relocation, the resulting overcrowding in Homewood, and the fear that led people to move hastily. There's mention of how the Urban Renewal Agency didn't properly explain or assist with relocation, causing panic and disarray among residents. Mrs. Pace also discusses the need for a diverse community, mixed-income housing, and the historical political landscape, including the responsiveness of various mayors to the community's needs. Mrs. Pace expresses appreciation for the then-mayor, Pete Flaherty, for improving services and addressing issues such as delinquent taxes and inefficiencies in city operations, though differing on some policies like busing for school integration.
