Description
Chess records his farm work, including some details of crops planted and harvested, the tasks of hired workers, and business with various people, personal expenses as well as the names of people he visits or who visit him. He buys fireworks ahead of July 4 and attends a Knights of Pythias picnic on the 4th. He notes days he spent sick. In October, he visits Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington DC, attending a “holiday theater night” there on the 19th. He travels to Louisville at the end of October and records some goods bought.
