Description
Account book from the Mount Vernon Furnace that documents debt of individual account holders on left and credits received to pay the debt on the right. Therefore, on the left side is what each account holder bought, and what the account holders paid in exchange is located on the right side. Account holders are identified by name, and each transaction is dated and described. Some things sold were whiskey, wheat, and iron traded for goods and services such as labor, cords of wood, and linen. This ledger dates mainly from 1798-99 with some from 1800.
