Scope and Content Notes

The materials in the Elisabeth Lloyd archives derive from and document the professional activities of a historian and philosopher of science. There is an extensive correspondence section, as well as manuscripts of philsophical articles written, texts of public and professional talks, teaching materials, annotated texts, manuscripts from others, and material generated by her work in professional settings such as academic societies, university administration, etc. Because her work as a philosopher and historian of science required extensive knowledge in the areas of her professional specialization, the professional correspondence is not exclusively with other philosophers. It also includes correspondence with scholars and researchers from evolutionary biology, systematics, theoretical biology and other areas in which she published extensively on philosophical issues.
