The interviews that make up the Westmoreland County Jewish Oral History Collection were prepared by the Westmoreland Jewish Community Council of the United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and refined by the Saint Vincent College Center for Northern Appalachian Studies. The work done to prepare, edit and transcribe the interviews was partially financed through grant assistance by the United Jewish Federation, Pittsburgh, Pa., and the Westmoreland Jewish Community Council.
The Westmoreland County Jewish Oral History Collection consists of 21 interviews on 25 cassette tapes. Transcripts have been printed and filed as a separate series in the collection for ease of reference. Many of the people interviewed were from Greensburg, Pa., with some respondents residing in Latrobe, Jeannette, and McKeesport. All were members of the Jewish community who played a role in the historical development of Westmoreland County, Pa. The interviews focus on family and immigrant history, employment and business history, education, religious backgrounds, military experience, as well as major events within the Westmoreland County Jewish community. All but two of the interviews were included in the historical publication, Listen to Our Word, edited by Dick Wissolik, Jennifer Campion and Barbara Wissolik.
The cassette tapes in this collection are alphabetically arranged by last name of interviewee.
