This collection contains over 2,500 inactive membership cards from Bakery Drivers' Teamsters Local Union No. 485. These cards include the worker's name and place of employment and are arranged alphabetically by the member's last name. Also included are agreements between Local 485 and wholesale and retail bakers. A brief history of the Teamsters is also present.
Bakery Drivers' Teamsters Local Union No. 485 represents drivers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and surrounding areas. Strikes by the union in 1938 and 1952 virtually shut down all major bakeries in the Pittsburgh area, resulting in a shortage of bread and greater bargaining leverage for the union because all other bakery operations were forced to stop production without a means of delivery.
Gift of Donald R. Getz in April 1997.
No restrictions.
