This collection contains the records of the Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1884 to 1994. The church was located in the Castle Shannon Borough of Allegheny County. The collection consists of three record books, newspaper clippings and programs from dedication and anniversary services. Early records are written in German.

History
The Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church was dedicated on May 2, 1886 in the Castle Shannon Borough of Allegheny County. The church was founded by German speaking Lutherans who had previously met at a schoolhouse in the Hamilton area. Sermons at the church were carried out in German until 1918 when it was decided to change to English. In addition, the church's main source of income came from pews rented to the congregation instead of traditional tithes.
Scope and Content
This collection reflects the activities of the members of the Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1884-1994. The collection consists of two reels of microfilm in which three record books, program pamphlets, and news clippings are located. These contain information on membership, baptisms, marriages, burials, pastors, officers as well as the church history. The first constitution and early records are written in German.
