The Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1886 and was originally known as the Immanuel German Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession. It is the oldest Lutheran church in Braddock and at one time was one of five Lutheran churches in the area. The need for a German Lutheran church reflects the number of new immigrants to Braddock of German descent. Thus, for many years services were held in German and it was not until 1963 that services were spoken completely in English. For further information about the history of the church, its mission, pastors, and congregation the researcher should consult the 100th anniversary booklet.
The Microfilmed Records of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church contain a 100th Anniversary booklet, 19 photographs, and three volumes (1886-1921, 1904-1906 and 1922-1965, and 1964-1990) of baptism, confirmation, communicant, marriage, and burial lists. A membership list begins in the second volume. In addition, the information in the first two volumes are written in German.
