History
Pine Creek Presbyterian Church was founded in 1815, though Presbyterian services had been held in private homes in the area before then. After 1871 and until 1950s or 1960s the church was known as Pine Creek First Presbyterian Church or First Pine Creek Presbyterian Church to distinguish it from Pine Creek Second Presbyterian Church (later Wildwood). The early Pine Creek Presbyterian Church buildings were on Dorseyville Road but preaching services were shifted in 1892 to Point View Chapel on Fox Chapel Road. It is near this latter site that the present, post-1945, church is located.
Scope and Content Notes
Series I includes photos, survey map, transcriptions of historical documents, including the 1871 Charter of Incorporation; Historical sketches of the church, composed at various dates and covering especially the founding years and 19th century history; Anniversary pamphlets for the 120th Anniversary (1815-1935) and Sesquicentennial (1815-1865); Quotations from former pastors; History of the Pine Creek Presbyterian Church, printed 1945; and a biographical sketch of former pastor Rev. J.H. Potter by Rev. David Reed Miller.
Series II contain Minutes of the Session. Volume 1 is followed by typescript Roll of Members, April, 1863, in index form. Volume 2 is followed by a register listing of pastors, elders, communicants, baptisms, and deaths. Volume 3 is followed by a roll of pastors, elders, deacons, trustees, communicants (in chronological order, but followed by an alphabetical name-index); baptisms, marriages, and deaths.
Both Series IV and V are indexed. Series VII containing cemetary records includes a map, plan of plots in the church cemetary; computerized alphabetical index and locational guide to burials and individual markers.
Note: Computer generated name indexes, produced for the church in the 1980s by Sherri Ihrman, follow and serve as finding aids to many of the Pine Creek records.
