Abstract
The Second German Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Pittsburgh, Pa., was organized in 1851 and changed its name to the Second St. Paul's Lutheran Church in 1872. The collection contains church bulletins and registers, anniversary booklets, annual reports, and brief chronologies of the congregation.

History

The Second German Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Pittsburgh, Pa., was organized in 1851. Worship was initially held in a hall on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Smithfield Street, then moved to Sixth Avenue and Grant Street. In 1872, the Congregation changed its name to the Second St. Paul's Lutheran Church and in 1873, a new church was dedicated on Pride Street near Fifth Avenue.

Scope and Content Notes

The collection contains church bulletins, anniversary booklets (including 90th and 100th anniversaries), annual reports from 1940 and 1955, brief chronologies of the congregation, and a photograph of Pastor E.W. Duessel taken in 1939. The church registers contain information regarding baptisms, confirmations, communions, marriages, funerals, and church officers. Some of the early records contained in the church registers are in German.
