History

The Forestville United Methodist Church is affiliated with the Harrisville United Methodist Church, Butler County, Pa.(AIS.1980.15a), which was formed in 1834 by Rev. William Carl. Harrisville pastors often served the smaller congregation of Forestville located in Mercer Township, Butler County. Because of this close bond between congregations, there are some overlaps in the records. Some church members may appear in the various records of the Harrisville Church (AIS.1980.15a).

Scope and Content Notes

The records span the years 1895-1979. They include combined church records (1909-1976), financial records (1947-1977), official board minutes (1949-1968), Sunday school records (1929-1971), and ladies organizations records (1954-1975). Furthermore, conference reports, 1956-1970 (Series IV) pertain to both Harrisville and Forestville Churches.

Records for both churches were filmed contiguously on four reels. Not all reels are full and the last of which is only one quarter full. Quality of microfilming is uneven; some segments are overexposed, others are slightly out of focus.

A very detailed preliminary inventory, prepared by Susan Himsl, can be found in the case file. It breaks down contents further than this inventory (example: baptisms; list date, name of subject, adult or infant, name of parents, date of birth, and officiating minister).
