Abstract
Women, Ethnicity and Mental Health is a comparative oral history study by Corinne Azen Krause of three generations of Italian, Jewish and Slavic American women of the Pittsburgh area. The study was undertaken as a search for specific information about women and about ethnicity on the premise that such information will prove value to curriculum planners, educators, and professionals responsible for the delivery of mental health services. The collection consists of 225 interview transcripts.

Scope and Content Notes

Women, Ethnicity and Mental Health is a comparative oral history study by Corinne Azen Krause of three generations of Italian, Jewish and Slavic American women of the Pittsburgh area. The study was undertaken as a search for specific information about women and about ethnicity on the premise that such information will prove value to curriculum planners, educators, and professionals responsible for the delivery of mental health services. The collection consists of 225 interview transcripts.

The interviewees have been anonymized and are only referred to as a code which correlates to each folder. A complete list of the anonymous interviewees is available in Box 1, Folder 1. This document lists the code number, date of birth, place of birth, occupation, and length of transcription (pages).

Within each interview folder, a preliminary questionnaire exists for each interviewee along with the typed transcript. The questionnaire consists of the following questions: Name (code); Address; DOB; Place of birth, if born outside of Pittsburgh; Date of moving here; Highest level of education; Occupation; Mother's DOB, place, highest level of education, occupation; Father's DOB, place, highest level of education, occupation; Brothers (number/DOB); Sisters (number/DOB); Are you married?; Date of marriage; Husband's DOB, place, highest level of education, occupation; and Children (sex, DOB, education, occupation).

The case file contains a report titled "Grandmothers, Mothers and Daughters" of findings of "Women, Ethnicity and Mental Health" by Ms. Krause.
