History

Biography/History

Jacob Heck, Sr. and his family immigrated to the United States from Wurttemberg, Germany in 1830. Prior to leaving for America, Jacob Sr. had received attestations to his character and craftsmanship from trade and craftsman organizations in Basil (1788) and Bern (1790). The Heck family settled in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, and three years after their immigration Jacob Sr. passed away. His son, Jacob Jr., opened a grocery store in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1842, while his other son, Godfrey, remained in Ohio and became a United States citizen in 1839.
