The Wise Oil and Gas Company, incorporated in 1927, acquired gas wells that James D. Callery and A.J. Wise held in partnership. In 1933, the corporation possessed six producing gas wells and one producing oil well. Between 1936 and 1939, the company drilled many wells and laid approximately 40 miles of pipes and continued expanding in the 1940's. The dissolution of the Wise Oil and Gas Company occurred in 1954.
Scope and Content Notes This collection includes legal papers pertaining to incorporation and dissolution (1926-1945)and minutes of board of directors and stockholder's meetings (1920-1953). It also contains stock certificates, correspondence, and financial records. Included are leases to oil land, maps, and geological reports for mining, drilling, and exploring oil and natural gas. The collection also includes information on distributing, selling and marketing of gas and their by-products. Boxes 9-12 contain unorganized maps documenting the areas in which the Wise Oil and Gas Company had business interests.
