Description
Featured here are Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin (with hammer over Trotsky's head, reminiscent of the ice pick used to assassinate Trotsky on Stalin's orders in 1940). Russian authorities banned the series from the 2007 Kandinsky Prize Competition (intended for the "best Russian work"). Alexander Sokolov, the Minister of Culture, also refused to allow the works to be exhibited in the 2007 exhibition of Russian Art in Paris, claiming the series would "bring shame to Russia." (Moscow Times, 14 November 2008). The Blue Noses group consists of the Siberian artists Viacheslav Mizin, Alexander Shaburov, Dmitry Bulnygin, and Konstantin Skotnikov.
