Description
The tympanum of the north nave portal contains New Testament scenes which occurred after the Resurrection of Christ. In the upper register, Christ appears in the midst of the apostles. All the figures are tall and slender, wearing laong garments with many folds. All the heads are missing. Christ is in the center- he is the tallest figure and has a halo with a cross on it, He faces the viewer and raises both hands. There are five apostles on Christ's right and six on his left. Two of the apostles on each side hold books. The apostles apper to be looking at Christ- all have expressive gestures. There is some scholarly dispute about the subject matter of this upper register- some say it is Christ appearing to the apostles (Luke xxiv 33-49) or the Ascension.; Romanesque; Good
