Description
1) Nave Elevation- South side: The nave elevation has two levels, separated with a stringcourse. The bays are separated by a compound pier with applied collonettes which extend upwards to the springing point of the arch. The piers continue upwards to divide the bays in the clerestory. The arcade level consists of a single round arch in each bay. There is a row of decorated columns at the springingpoints of the arcade arches and at the springingpoints of the arches. The clerestory has a relatively small, unornamented, arched window near the top. The vault is not continuous, but is a series of groin vaults, one for each bay, separated by transverse round arches with voussoirs of alternating grey and brown stone. 2) Nave Elevation- West side: This elevation also has two levels. The stringcourse which separates them continues ate the same level on the side walls. The portal has two arches which are not as tall as those on the arcade. A small attached column continues above the column separating the arches of the portal. In the upper level, there are two round-arched openings separated by a shorter rectangular open supported by three short columns. They open into the chapel on the gallery level of the Narthex. -JV; Romanesque; Not Applicable
