Description
Picture of the first heat at Open Hearth #3 to take place after an eight week industry wide strike. President Harry S. Truman tried to intervene and avoid the impending strike--which would be detrimental to Korean War production--by seizing control of the nation's steel industry on April 8, 1952. However, the supreme court declared this seizure to be unconstitutional and the strike went ahead, stopping production of steel nationwide.
