Description
Men work to relocate a coal barge that has made its way to the PLERR tracks as a result of the 1936 flood. Assistance is provided by a Champion Coal tugboat. This view looks east toward the Lawrence & Company Paints and Varnishes and the Point Bridge. The 1936 flood occurred over a period of four days after heavy rains, culminating with the crest of the Ohio River at 46 Feet. The 1936 flood had far reaching effects, causing some 250 million dollars in damages and an estimated 108 fatalities. See also images 5774 and 5777 for alternate views.
