Description
Looking north from a hill (now part of Boyce Mayview Park) towards Chartiers Creek and intersecting railroads. In view is Mayview Hospital, a psychiatric hospital. Built in 1892 as Marshalsea, the hospital's name was changed in 1916 to Pittsburgh City Home and Hospital at Mayview. In 1938, it would become a state hospital and be renamed Mayview State Hospital. The hospital's campus at its peak comprised 80 buildings, caring for almost 4,000 patients. The hospital was closed in December 2008 and the land sold.
