Description
Evelyn Brooks describes the locations of her homes throughout her life in Homestead, her employment as a community development director at the United Methodist Church Union, and her religious affiliation as a Baptist. She describes her parents' upbringing in Virginia, marriage, and migration northward and recalls her father's diligence as a worker in the steel mill. She discusses the dynamic of her household growing up, recalling the great respect that the children had for their parents and her mother's employment as a housekeeper for upper middle class families primarily in Shadyside.
