Description
Chess records his work around Allegheny County, in land surveying, writing deeds and agreements, and farm work. He takes note of letters he’s received or written to others and the names of people he’s meeting each day. He records meetings of the Agricultural Society and Horticultural Society, such as when and where they occurred. He mentions a “suicide shooting” committed by L. Holmes on January 7. He travels to eastern Pennsylvania in March, visiting Harrisburg and Philadelphia. He records attending auditor meetings, as well as a Republican committee on June 16 and visits a poor house on July 30. His church attendance begins to decrease and less information about church services is included.
