Description
Chess records his farm work, land surveying, business with various people as well as personal meetings, and the time of Agricultural and Horticultural Society meetings. In April, he notes preparing his papers and insurance for travel and then leaves for Europe, recording his travels in a separate diary (the 1867 European travel diary). He returns home in August. He records the funeral of William Frew on September 8, and later arranges the Frew accounts. Frew was the spouse of Jane Chess Steele Frew Pierce, a sibling of Moses Chess. There is a business card for Jas. R. Reed & Co. in the back.
