Description
A line of boats runs along the edge of the river abutting the Scaife Company's riverfront building, visible in the background. In 1891, William Scaife and Sons Co. moved it's iron plant from Pittsburgh to Oakmont. Charles Scaife, who owned the company at that time, was married to James Verner's daughter. She had inherited a large riverfront tract between Ann St. and Delaware Avenue from her father, and it was on that land that the Scaife Company built the plant. Originally from the collection of Helen Maryanski.
