Description
Equipment and materials inside the Edgewater Steel Company Plant. Edgewater Steel Company was founded in October 1916 as a railroad wheel rolling facility. Located on Allegheny River Boulevard and College Avenue, the plant eventually expanded to produce forged and rolled products to the transportation and industrial gear and bearing industries. The company also produced forged and rolled rings from titanium and other aerospace materials for the use in combustion chambers of military and commercial engines for jet aircraft and rockets. The plant operated in Oakmont until 2001 and was Oakmont's largest employer for several years. Originally from the collection of Keith McAuly.
