Scope and Content Notes

This collection consists largely of three dimensional objects that are associated with the University of Pittsburgh and its history. Included are items produced by the University to commemorate events or to give as gifts to patrons, donors, students and others. The collection also includes curiosities that have been connected to the University or its operations or is just memorabilia from offices or buildings.

Acquisition Information

These items have been collected by the University Archives over a long period of time. The items usually are found in collections or given to the archives by students, staff, faculty or the general public.

Separated Material

Most photographs and slides that were part of the original inventory have been transferred to the Media Room and shelved with like materials in the appropriate files therein. For example, Item 61 (slide carosel of a Tour of Hillman Library) was rehoused and moved to Media Storage. Item 85 (photographs from the U.S. Public Health Service) have been moved to RG 90/F-14.

History

This is a collection of realia largely about the University of Pittsburgh. The items have been individually donated or deposited since the founding of the archives. There are also items that document Phi Chi Theta, Ruth Crawford Mitchell, and Discovery Weekend.
