Scope and Content Notes

The Rosalie Cohen Papers contain a variety of materials pertaining to key phases of Cohen's academic life. Much of the Correspondence series dates from her time spent at the University of Pittsburgh. Some Correspondence however dates from after her move to Temple in 1970. Some letters collected in this series represent Cohen's efforts to share and refine her research; others document part of her career reviewing books and her tenure as an Associate Editor of the "Journal of Health & Social Behavior." The Course Materials, Event Materials, and Professional Papers series provide some insight into Cohen's pedagogical methods, the scholarly circles she moved in, and the organization, activities, and achievements of her intellectual and institutional life. The Publication series provides a rich sample of Cohen's writings and a bevy of contextual materials showing how these works took shape and circulated. Themes common to the whole collection include the following: conceptual styles, methodology in the social sciences, the philosophy of education, education policy, and poverty.
