Description
At each of the angles of the capital, a smaller figure is lying or crouching in front of a larger, standing figure. On the left, the small figure is crouching, facing the viewer, and holds what appears to be a full bag in each hand (moneybags?) It is grimacing. The figure standing in front of it wears a garment with long sleeves. Its hands are damaged, but it appears to be holding an object in its right hand and either pointing to of pulling the hair of the figure crouching in front of it. On the right, the smaller figure is prone, while the larger figure appears to be pulling out its tongue. (It probably used some sort of implement to do this- the standing figure's lower arms and any implement it held have been broken off. The standing figure has a nude torso and has its feet on the throat and the knees of the smaller figure below. Framing these figures are pairs of large birds which reach their heads backwards so that their beaks touch over the heads of the standing figures (perhaps touching their hair?) Salet suggests that this is the punishment of Avarice and Slander (See the tympanum at Conques) Salet number 45 Alternate search terms (See text above for synonyms): naked; Romanesque; Somewhat restored
