Description
East end. The east end consists of an apse with an aisle and five radiating semi-circular chapels. Each chapel has a tall blank base topped by two round windows. There is a small course of dentals at the roofline. The chapels are separated by engaged piers that form the bases for flying buttresses supporting the upper walls of the central apse. Above the chapel level is a relatively short projection which contains the triforium passage. The outer wall of the passage contains small round windows added by Viollet-le-Duc during the reconstruction of the structure in the middle of the nineteenth century. Murphy, p. 112) Above this is the wall of the choir apse, with single large pointed windows centered over each chapel between the springings of the flying buttresses. -JV; Gothic; Somewhat restored
