Description
Judge Sara Soffel and Dr. Alice G. Masaryk receive Honorary Degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Judge Soffel was the first female law student at the University of Pittsburgh and the first female juror in Pennsylvania. Dr. Masaryk, the daughter of Czechoslovakian President Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, was a sociologist and member of Czechoslovakian parliament. She emigrated to the United States and resided in Chicago after the death of her brother Jan Masaryk in 1948.
