Description
Mechanics in training hard at work on the engine of a Liberty truck. The Liberty Truck was designed to have standard issue parts that were interchangeable between the different trucks. The men are working on an L-Head engine, and the parts were most likely donated by Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing company. Beginning April 11, 1918 the University began training military enlistees as automobile and gas engine mechanics. Seven barracks were construct to house up to 1,000 men. A mess hall was constructed that could Seat 2,000 men. An administrative building and the Y.M.C.A. Hospitality House were built on the hill above O'Hara Street.
